Halloween is over, which means that the fall decorating officially begins.
And I need help.
I always have grand visions for what I'd like to do. The problem is making some semblance of my grand dreams using only items that are around the house or can be purchased for $3 at Walmart. Some people are masters at this. Me, not so much. Maybe I need new items around the house :)
This is how far I've gotten on an imitation Pottery Barn centerpiece. What does it need? other than $15 dried pomegranates?

Other than the fact that the flower arranging needs help, and the leaf vase needs a different color ribbon (maybe bright yellow?) What else? I need ideas. How can I make it look nice?
Many thanks :)

Hey Sarah, couldn't help posting...PB is my specialty (hehehehe) First thing that always makes a difference is the cut of your flowers. Cut each one so that it peeks over your vase instead of standing above it. And actually anything can be used. I use teapots and ironstone pitchers or pottery. They tend to be warmer than glass. Also, I like to put some sort of wicker tray or basket under my arrangements ( I wish we lived closer, I'd give you one along with the dried pomegranates you so desire. Basketry always warms it up and makes anything feel cozy. Also, I do everything in an odd number. Usually 3. It just works for some reason. Don't be afraid to throw the gourds in one of the hurricanes, a candle in another. Just work it until it feels right! I'll take some pics of my fall PB arranging and post em! I looooooooooove decorating! Good luck and you're doing great!!!

i was just about to write cut the flowers--but I saw someone already did! Yes...make them into a tight bouquet. I would wrap the vase entirely in raffia or rope too--makes a cool rustic look for the season.
I am so not your girl... but I will be reading the comments and maybe I will be inspired!! :)

agree with cory regarding the cut of the flowers in the vase, also you may want once hurricane with a candle and full the other up with the fruit/leaves/nuts. maybe one bright color added in would be nice too a cranberry or some orange.
I am SO reading this for inspiration!
i'm reading too!! so...looks like you have 6 readers eagerly awaiting your next post!! cory has some amazing pointers...i've already learned alot!! no pointers here....other than have the kids collect pine cones...(if you have some around...or at any park!) and use them in your decorating...nice and free!!
What about adding some width dimension? If you use some sticks/boughs like the ones in the green vase here http://www.potterybarn.com/products/benchwright-dining-table-set/?pkey=call-sale-dining-room
it might add a different look to it. I agree with someone's comment about more color. And the flowers in a smaller, shorter bunch. I'd love to see some acorns here, perhaps the girls can do an acorn hunt?
Is that wheat in the back? I can't tell what it is... perhaps tie whatever it is with a ribbon too?
Also cool - this one http://www.potterybarn.com/products/pomegranate-vase-filler/?pkey=cdecor-thanksgiving-holiday
has old black and white photos down the sides of the vases too.
Good to see you back blogging again and I'm definitely still here! Life is busy! :) Can't wait to see what you do with it!
Hi Sarah, I'm not so great at this either, but I'm thinking a little mat/table runner/etc of some kind underneath your centerpiece would help bring it together.
Just my 2 cents and probably not worth that much! lol
whatever you do, take more pictures and let us see, ok? you've got some great things already, and some great suggestions!

Cory is awesome! So true. I have a beautiful punch bowl full of gourds and mini pumpkins with a candle in the middle, and i'm looking for a small strand of white lights to put around in there too. I'll use the same punch bowl for a Christmas themed center piece too and definitely have white fluffy stuff in the mix with the soft white lights. I like what you've done so far though! And yes, i'm another follower and frequenter to your blog, you are a lovable poster!
